2012-10-24win32: fix broken build due to missing QEMU_MADV_HUGEPAGELuiz Capitulino1-0/+2
Commit ad0b5321f1f797274603ebbe20108b0750baee94 forgot to add QEMU_MADV_HUGEPAGE macros for when CONFIG_MADVISE is not defined. This broke the build for Windows. Fix it. Signed-off-by: Luiz Capitulino <lcapitulino@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: Anthony Liguori <aliguori@us.ibm.com>
2012-10-22Call MADV_HUGEPAGE for guest RAM allocationsLuiz Capitulino1-0/+5
This makes it possible for QEMU to use transparent huge pages (THP) when transparent_hugepage/enabled=madvise. Otherwise THP is only used when it's enabled system wide. Signed-off-by: Luiz Capitulino <lcapitulino@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: Anthony Liguori <aliguori@us.ibm.com>
2012-08-16memory: add -machine dump-guest-core=on|offJason Baron1-0/+7
Add a new '[,dump-guest-core=on|off]' option to the '-machine' option. When 'dump-guest-core=off' is specified, guest memory is omitted from the core dump. The default behavior continues to be to include guest memory when a core dump is triggered. In my testing, this brought the core dump size down from 384MB to 6MB on a 2GB guest. Is anything additional required to preserve this setting for migration or savevm? I don't believe so. Changelog: v3: Eliminate globals as per Anthony's suggestion set no dump from qemu_ram_remap() as well v2: move the option from -m to -machine, rename option dump -> dump-guest-core Signed-off-by: Jason Baron <jbaron@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: Anthony Liguori <aliguori@us.ibm.com>
2012-08-03vnc: disable VNC password authentication (security type 2) when in FIPS modePaul Moore1-0/+4
FIPS 140-2 requires disabling certain ciphers, including DES, which is used by VNC to obscure passwords when they are sent over the network. The solution for FIPS users is to disable the use of VNC password auth when the host system is operating in FIPS compliance mode and the user has specified '-enable-fips' on the QEMU command line. This patch causes QEMU to emit a message to stderr when the host system is running in FIPS mode and a VNC password was specified on the commend line. If the system is not running in FIPS mode, or is running in FIPS mode but VNC password authentication was not requested, QEMU operates normally. 2012-06-19Allow machines to configure the QEMU_VERSION that's exposed via hardwareCrístian Viana1-0/+3
QEMU exposes its version to the guest's hardware and in some cases that is wrong (e.g. Windows prints messages about driver updates when you switch the QEMU version). There is a new field now on the struct QEmuMachine, hw_version, which may contain the version that the specific machine should report. If that field is set, then that machine will report that version to the guest. Signed-off-by: Crístian Viana <vianac@linux.vnet.ibm.com> Signed-off-by: Anthony Liguori <aliguori@us.ibm.com>

2012-03-08osdep: Remove local definition of macro offsetofStefan Weil1-3/+0
The macro offsetof is defined in stddef.h. It is conforming to the standards C89, C99 and POSIX.1-2001 (see man page), so it is a sufficiently old standard. Therefore chances are very high that QEMU never needs a local definition of this macro. osdep.h already includes stddef.h, so this patch simply removes the unneeded code from the files configure and osdep.h. If we ever need the local definition again, it should be added to compiler.h (the macro is usually provided with the compiler, it is not OS specific). Signed-off-by: Stefan Weil <sw@weilnetz.de> Signed-off-by: Stefan Hajnoczi <stefanha@linux.vnet.ibm.com>
2011-09-23Move macro QEMU_GNUC_PREREQ to compiler.hStefan Weil1-7/+0
The macro is compiler specific and does not depend on the operating system. Move macro QEMU_GNUC_PREREQ from osdep.h to compiler.h and use it to simplify existing code. host-utils.h uses this macro, so it now needs compiler.h instead of osdep.h. 2011-08-21w64: Add definition of FMT_pidStefan Weil1-0/+2
For mingw-w64, pid_t is _pid_t which is __int64, so this platform needs its own definition of FMT_pid. Reviewed-by: Andreas Färber <andreas.faerber@web.de> Signed-off-by: Stefan Weil <weil@mail.berlios.de> Signed-off-by: Blue Swirl <blauwirbel@gmail.com>
2011-06-15Introduce format string for pid_tAndreas Färber1-0/+6
BeOS and Haiku on i386 use long for 32-bit types, including pid_t. Using %d with pid_t therefore results in a warning. Unfortunately POSIX:2008 does not define a PRId* string for pid_t. In some places pid_t was previously casted to long and %ld hardcoded. The predecessor of this patch added another upcast for the simpletrace filename but was not applied to date. Since new uses of pid_t with %d keep creeping in, let's instead define an OS-dependent format string and use that consistently. 2011-06-14Darwin: Fix compilation warning regarding the deprecated daemon() functionAlexandre Raymond1-0/+1
Changes since v1: create a wrapper function named qemu_daemon() in oslib-posix.c instead of putting the OS specific workaround in qemu-nbd.c directly. On OSX >= 10.5, daemon() is deprecated, resulting in the following warning: ----8<---- qemu-nbd.c: In function ‘main’: qemu-nbd.c:371: warning: ‘daemon’ is deprecated (declared at /usr/include/stdlib.h:289) ----8<---- The following trick, used in mDNSResponder, takes care of this warning: http://www.opensource.apple.com/source/mDNSResponder/mDNSResponder-258.18/mDNSPosix/PosixDaemon.c On OSX, it temporarily renames the daemon() function before including stdlib.h and declares it manually as an extern function. This way, the compiler does not see the declaration from stdlib.h and thus does not display the warning. 2011-02-23bitmap: add a generic bitmap and bitops libraryCorentin Chary1-0/+4
Add most used bitmap and bitops functions into bitmap.c and bitops.c. Theses functions are mostly copied from Linux kernel source. Some of these functions are already redefined in the VNC server. Some of them could be used for some block stuff. The yet yo be submitted NUMA work also need bitmaps. bitops_ffsl() and bitops_flsl() are here because bitops/bitmap works on unsigned long, not int, and we can't use current code because: * ffs only works on int * qemu_fls only works on int * ffsl is a GNU extension Signed-off-by: Corentin Chary <corentincj@iksaif.net> Signed-off-by: Anthony Liguori <aliguori@us.ibm.com>

2010-09-25Introduce qemu_madvise()Andreas Färber1-0/+35
vl.c has a Sun-specific hack to supply a prototype for madvise(), but the call site has apparently moved to arch_init.c. Haiku doesn't implement madvise() in favor of posix_madvise(). OpenBSD and Solaris 10 don't implement posix_madvise() but madvise(). MinGW implements neither. Check for madvise() and posix_madvise() in configure and supply qemu_madvise() as wrapper. Prefer madvise() over posix_madvise() due to flag availability. Convert all callers to use qemu_madvise() and QEMU_MADV_*. Note that on Solaris the warning is fixed by moving the madvise() prototype, not by qemu_madvise() itself. It helps with porting though, and it simplifies most call sites. v7 -> v8: * Some versions of MinGW have no sys/mman.h header. Reported by Blue Swirl. v6 -> v7: * Adopt madvise() rather than posix_madvise() semantics for returning errors. * Use EINVAL in place of ENOTSUP. v5 -> v6: * Replace two leftover instances of POSIX_MADV_NORMAL with QEMU_MADV_INVALID. Spotted by Blue Swirl. v4 -> v5: * Introduce QEMU_MADV_INVALID, suggested by Alexander Graf. Note that this relies on -1 not being a valid advice value. v3 -> v4: * Eliminate #ifdefs at qemu_advise() call sites. Requested by Blue Swirl. This will currently break the check in kvm-all.c by calling madvise() with a supported flag, which will not fail. Ideas/patches welcome. v2 -> v3: * Reuse the *_MADV_* defines for QEMU_MADV_*. Suggested by Alexander Graf. * Add configure check for madvise(), too. Add defines to Makefile, not QEMU_CFLAGS. Convert all callers, untested. Suggested by Blue Swirl. * Keep Solaris' madvise() prototype around. Pointed out by Alexander Graf. * Display configure check results. v1 -> v2: * Don't rely on posix_madvise() availability, add qemu_madvise(). Suggested by Blue Swirl.
