2016-09-13hw: replace most use of qemu_chr_fe_write with qemu_chr_fe_write_allDaniel P. Berrange1-1/+3
The qemu_chr_fe_write method will return -1 on EAGAIN if the chardev backend write would block. Almost no callers of the qemu_chr_fe_write() method check the return value, instead blindly assuming data was successfully sent. In most cases this will lead to silent data loss on interactive consoles, but in some cases (eg RNG EGD) it'll just cause corruption of the protocol being spoken. We unfortunately can't fix the virtio-console code, due to a bug in the Linux guest drivers, which would cause the entire Linux kernel to hang if we delay processing of the incoming data in any way. Fixing this requires first fixing the guest driver to not hold spinlocks while writing to the hvc device backend. Fixes bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/qemu/+bug/1586756 Signed-off-by: Daniel P. 2016-03-18qapi: Don't special-case simple union wrappersEric Blake1-1/+1
Simple unions were carrying a special case that hid their 'data' QMP member from the resulting C struct, via the hack method QAPISchemaObjectTypeVariant.simple_union_type(). Using the implicit type also lets us get rid of the simple_union_type() hack. Of course, now all clients of simple unions have to adjust from using su->u.member to using su->u.member.data; while this touches a number of files in the tree, some earlier cleanup patches helped minimize the change to the initialization of a temporary variable rather than every single member access. 2016-03-05ui: Shorten references into InputEventEric Blake1-5/+7
An upcoming patch will alter how simple unions, like InputEvent, are laid out, which will impact all lines of the form 'evt->u.XXX' (expanding it to the longer 'evt->u.XXX.data'). For better legibility in that patch, and less need for line wrapping, it's better to use a temporary variable to reduce the effect of a layout change to just the variable initializations, rather than every reference within an InputEvent. There was one instance in hid.c:hid_pointer_event() where the code was referring to evt->u.rel inside the case label where evt->u.abs is the correct name; thankfully, both members of the union have the same type, so it happened to work, but it is now cleaner. 2015-11-02input: Convert to new qapi union layoutEric Blake1-6/+6
We have two issues with our qapi union layout: 1) Even though the QMP wire format spells the tag 'type', the C code spells it 'kind', requiring some hacks in the generator. 2) The C struct uses an anonymous union, which places all tag values in the same namespace as all non-variant members. This leads to spurious collisions if a tag value matches a non-variant member's name. Make the conversion to the new layout for input-related code. Nasty 0xe0 logic is gone. We map through QKeyCode now, giving us a nice, readable mapping table. Quick smoke test in OpenFirmware looks ok. Careful check from arch maintainers would be very nice, especially on the capslock and numlock logic.
