2023-09-09timer: document the unit of the timer rateHeinrich Schuchardt1-3/+3
To avoid confusion document that timer_dev_priv.clock_rate and timer_get_rate() yield the timer rate in hertz. Signed-off-by: Heinrich Schuchardt <heinrich.schuchardt@canonical.com> Reviewed-by: Simon Glass <sjg@chromium.org>
2023-02-11timer: Tidy up use of notraceSimon Glass1-4/+9
Tracing is typically enabled by the time driver model starts up, so there is no point in adding a 'notrace' to the timer-init function. However, once the driver model timer is enabled, we do need to be able to access the timer's private data when reading the timer, so add it to the core function needed for that. Update the function's documentation while we are here. Signed-off-by: Simon Glass <sjg@chromium.org>
2022-11-22timer-uclass: add timer_get_ops() macroOvidiu Panait1-0/+2
Align timer uclass with the other subsystems and provide a timer_get_ops() convenience macro. Using this instead of the generic device_get_ops() also prevents -Wdiscarded-qualifiers warnings when used with non-const variables. 2020-10-22timer: Return count from timer_ops.get_countSean Anderson1-3/+6
No timer drivers return an error from get_count. Instead of possibly returning an error, just return the count directly. Signed-off-by: Sean Anderson <seanga2@gmail.com> Reviewed-by: Claudiu Beznea <claudiu.beznea@microchip.com> Reviewed-by: Simon Glass <sjg@chromium.org>
2020-10-22doc: Document timer APISean Anderson1-22/+24
This adds kerneldocs for <timer.h>. I don't know who should maintain doc/api/timer.rst, since the timer subsystem seems to be maintained by SoC maintainers. MAINTAINERS is left un-updated for the moment. Signed-off-by: Sean Anderson <seanga2@gmail.com> Reviewed-by: Simon Glass <sjg@chromium.org>
2020-09-30timer: Add helper for drivers using timebase fallbackSean Anderson1-0/+15
This function is designed to be used when a timer used to be initialized by the cpu (e.g. RISC-V timers), but now is initialized by dm_timer_init. In such a case, the timer may prefer to use the clocks and clock-frequency properties, but should be able to fall back on using the cpu's timebase-frequency. 2018-05-07SPDX: Convert all of our single license tags to Linux Kernel styleTom Rini1-2/+1
When U-Boot started using SPDX tags we were among the early adopters and there weren't a lot of other examples to borrow from. So we picked the area of the file that usually had a full license text and replaced it with an appropriate SPDX-License-Identifier: entry. Since then, the Linux Kernel has adopted SPDX tags and they place it as the very first line in a file (except where shebangs are used, then it's second line) and with slightly different comment styles than us. In part due to community overlap, in part due to better tag visibility and in part for other minor reasons, switch over to that style. This commit changes all instances where we have a single declared license in the tag as both the before and after are identical in tag contents. There's also a few places where I found we did not have a tag and have introduced one. Signed-off-by: Tom Rini <trini@konsulko.com>
2016-02-26timer: Provide an early timerSimon Glass1-0/+21
In some cases the timer must be accessible before driver model is active. Examples include when using CONFIG_TRACE to trace U-Boot's execution before driver model is set up. Enable this option to use an early timer. These functions must be supported by your timer driver: timer_early_get_count() and timer_early_get_rate(). Signed-off-by: Simon Glass <sjg@chromium.org>
2016-01-20dm: timer: uclass: add timer init in uclass driver to add timer deviceMugunthan V N1-0/+9
Adding timer init function in timer-uclass driver to create and initialize the timer device on platforms where u-boot,dm-pre-reloc is not used. Since there will be multiple timer devices in the system, adding a tick-timer node in chosen node to know which timer device to be used as tick timer in u-boot. 2015-12-01dm: timer: Support 64-bit counterBin Meng1-3/+11
There are timers with a 64-bit counter value but current timer uclass driver assumes a 32-bit one. Modify timer_get_count() to ask timer driver to always return a 64-bit counter value, and provide an inline helper function timer_conv_64() to handle the 32-bit/64-bit conversion automatically.
