2008-05-21net/ipv4/arp.c: Use common hex_asc helpersDenis Cheng1-3/+2
Here the local hexbuf is a duplicate of global const char hex_asc from lib/hexdump.c, except the hex letters' cases: const char hexbuf[] = "0123456789ABCDEF"; const char hex_asc[] = "0123456789abcdef"; and here to print HW addresses, the hex cases are not significant. Thanks to Harvey Harrison to introduce the hex_asc_hi/hex_asc_lo helpers. 2008-05-12net: Allow netdevices to specify needed head/tailroomJohannes Berg1-1/+1
This patch adds needed_headroom/needed_tailroom members to struct net_device and updates many places that allocate sbks to use them. Not all of them can be converted though, and I'm sure I missed some (I mostly grepped for LL_RESERVED_SPACE) Signed-off-by: Johannes Berg <johannes@sipsolutions.net> Signed-off-by: David S. 2008-03-26[NET] NETNS: Omit net_device->nd_net without CONFIG_NET_NS.YOSHIFUJI Hideaki1-7/+7
Introduce per-net_device inlines: dev_net(), dev_net_set(). Without CONFIG_NET_NS, no namespace other than &init_net exists. Let's explicitly define them to help compiler optimizations. Signed-off-by: YOSHIFUJI Hideaki <yoshfuji@linux-ipv6.org>
2008-03-24[NETNS]: /proc/net/arp namespacing.Denis V. Lunev1-2/+18

2008-03-24[NETNS]: Process ARP in the context of the correct namespace.Denis V. Lunev1-14/+9
Get namespace from a device and pass it to the routing engine. Enable ARP packet processing and device notifiers after that. Signed-off-by: Denis V. Lunev <den@openvz.org> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2008-03-05[IPV4]: Add 'rtable' field in struct sk_buff to alias 'dst' and avoid castsEric Dumazet1-2/+2
(Anonymous) unions can help us to avoid ugly casts. A common cast it the (struct rtable *)skb->dst one. Defining an union like : union { struct dst_entry *dst; struct rtable *rtable; }; permits to use skb->rtable in place. Signed-off-by: Eric Dumazet <dada1@cosmosbay.com> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2008-03-03[ARP]: Introduce the arp_hdr_len helper.Pavel Emelyanov1-6/+3
There are some place, that calculate the ARP header length. These calculations are correct, but a) some operate with "magic" constants, b) enlarge the code length (sometimes at the cost of coding style), c) are not informative from the first glance. The proposal is to introduce a helper, that includes all the good sides of these calculations. Signed-off-by: Pavel Emelyanov <xemul@openvz.org> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2008-02-17Revert "[NDISC]: Fix race in generic address resolution"David S. Miller1-0/+3
This reverts commit 69cc64d8d92bf852f933e90c888dfff083bd4fc9. It causes recursive locking in IPV6 because unlike other neighbour layer clients, it even needs neighbour cache entries to send neighbour soliciation messages :-( We'll have to find another way to fix this race. Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2008-02-12[NDISC]: Fix race in generic address resolutionDavid S. Miller1-3/+0
Frank Blaschka provided the bug report and the initial suggested fix for this bug. He also validated this version of this fix. The problem is that the access to neigh->arp_queue is inconsistent, we grab references when dropping the lock lock to call neigh->ops->solicit() but this does not prevent other threads of control from trying to send out that packet at the same time causing corruptions because both code paths believe they have exclusive access to the skb. The best option seems to be to hold the write lock on neigh->lock during the ->solicit() call. I looked at all of the ndisc_ops implementations and this seems workable. The only case that needs special care is the IPV4 ARP implementation of arp_solicit(). It wants to take neigh->lock as a reader to protect the header entry in neigh->ha during the emission of the soliciation. We can simply remove the read lock calls to take care of that since holding the lock as a writer at the caller providers a superset of the protection afforded by the existing read locking. The rest of the ->solicit() implementations don't care whether the neigh is locked or not. Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>

2008-01-28[NETNS]: Process inet_confirm_addr in the correct namespace.Denis V. Lunev1-1/+0
inet_confirm_addr can be called with NULL in_dev from arp_ignore iff scope is RT_SCOPE_LINK. Lets always pass the device and check for RT_SCOPE_LINK scope inside inet_confirm_addr. This let us take network namespace from in_device a need for an additional argument. Signed-off-by: Denis V. Lunev <den@openvz.org> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2008-01-28[IPV4]: Remove extra argument from arp_ignore.Denis V. Lunev1-6/+5
arp_ignore has two arguments: dev & in_dev. dev is used for inet_confirm_addr calling only. inet_confirm_addr, in turn, either gets in_dev from the device passed or iterates over all network devices if the device passed is NULL. It seems logical to directly pass in_dev into inet_confirm_addr. Signed-off-by: Denis V. Lunev <den@openvz.org> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2008-01-28[NETNS]: Make arp code network namespace consistent.Denis V. Lunev1-4/+4
Some calls in the arp.c have network namespace as an argument. Getting init_net inside these functions is simply inconsistent. Fix this. Signed-off-by: Denis V. Lunev <den@openvz.org> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2008-01-28[ARP]: Move inet_addr_type call after simple error checks in arp_contructor.Denis V. Lunev1-2/+2
The neighbour entry will be destroyed in the case of error, so it is pointless to perform constly routing table lookup in this case. Signed-off-by: Denis V. Lunev <den@openvz.org> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2008-01-28[NETNS]: Add netns parameter to inet_(dev_)add_type.Eric W. Biederman1-6/+6
The patch extends the inet_addr_type and inet_dev_addr_type with the network namespace pointer. That allows to access the different tables relatively to the network namespace. The modification of the signature function is reported in all the callers of the inet_addr_type using the pointer to the well known init_net. 2008-01-28[IPV4]: Remove unsupported DNAT (RTCF_NAT and RTCF_NAT) in IPV4Rami Rosen1-3/+2
- The DNAT (Destination NAT) is not implemented in IPV4. - This patch remove the code which checks these flags in net/ipv4/arp.c and net/ipv4/route.c. The RTCF_NAT and RTCF_NAT should stay in the header (linux/in_route.h) because they are used in DECnet. Signed-off-by: Rami Rosen <ramirose@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2008-01-28[NETNS]: Modify the neighbour table code so it handles multiple network ↵Eric W. Biederman1-6/+6
namespaces I'm actually surprised at how much was involved. At first glance it appears that the neighbour table data structures are already split by network device so all that should be needed is to modify the user interface commands to filter the set of neighbours by the network namespace of their devices. However a couple things turned up while I was reading through the code. The proxy neighbour table allows entries with no network device, and the neighbour parms are per network device (except for the defaults) so they now need a per network namespace default. So I updated the two structures (which surprised me) with their very own network namespace parameter. Updated the relevant lookup and destroy routines with a network namespace parameter and modified the code that interacts with users to filter out neighbour table entries for devices of other namespaces. I'm a little concerned that we can modify and display the global table configuration and from all network namespaces. But this appears good enough for now. I keep thinking modifying the neighbour table to have per network namespace instances of each table type would should be cleaner. The hash table is already dynamically sized so there are it is not a limiter. The default parameter would be straight forward to take care of. However when I look at the how the network table is built and used I still find some assumptions that there is only a single neighbour table for each type of table in the kernel. The netlink operations, neigh_seq_start, the non-core network users that call neigh_lookup. So while it might be doable it would require more refactoring than my current approach of just doing a little extra filtering in the code. Signed-off-by: Eric W. 2008-01-28[IPV4]: Switch users of ipv4_devconf(_all) to use the pernet onePavel Emelyanov1-2/+2
These are scattered over the code, but almost all the "critical" places already have the proper struct net at hand except for snmp proc showing function and routing rtnl handler. Signed-off-by: Pavel Emelyanov <xemul@openvz.org> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2008-01-28[IPV4]: Pass the net pointer to the arp_req_set_proxy()Pavel Emelyanov1-12/+16
This one will need to set the IPV4_DEVCONF_ALL(PROXY_ARP), but there's no ways to get the net right in place, so we have to pull one from the inet_ioctl's struct sock. Signed-off-by: Pavel Emelyanov <xemul@openvz.org> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>

2008-01-28[ARP]: Minus one level of indentation in arp_req_setPavel Emelyanov1-25/+33
The ATF_PUBL requests are handled completely separate from the others. Emphasize it with a separate function. This also reduces the indentation level. The same issue exists with the arp_delete_request, but when I tried to make it in one patch diff produced completely unreadable patch. So I split it into two, but they may be done with one commit. 2008-01-25IPoIB: improve IPv4/IPv6 to IB mcast mapping functionsRolf Manderscheid1-1/+1
An IPoIB subnet on an IB fabric that spans multiple IB subnets can't use link-local scope in multicast GIDs. The existing routines that map IP/IPv6 multicast addresses into IB link-level addresses hard-code the scope to link-local, and they also leave the partition key field uninitialised. This patch adds a parameter (the link-level broadcast address) to the mapping routines, allowing them to initialise both the scope and the P_Key appropriately, and fixes up the call sites. The next step will be to add a way to configure the scope for an IPoIB interface. Signed-off-by: Rolf Manderscheid <rvm@obsidianresearch.com> Signed-off-by: Roland Dreier <rolandd@cisco.com>

2007-11-26[IPV4]: Remove bogus ifdef mess in arp_processAdrian Bunk1-19/+0
The #ifdef's in arp_process() were not only a mess, they were also wrong in the CONFIG_NET_ETHERNET=n and (CONFIG_NETDEV_1000=y or CONFIG_NETDEV_10000=y) cases. Since they are not required this patch removes them. Also removed are some #ifdef's around #include's that caused compile errors after this change. 2007-10-10[NET]: Make core networking code use seq_open_privatePavel Emelyanov1-18/+2
This concerns the ipv4 and ipv6 code mostly, but also the netlink and unix sockets. The netlink code is an example of how to use the __seq_open_private() call - it saves the net namespace on this private. Signed-off-by: Pavel Emelyanov <xemul@openvz.org> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2007-10-10[NET]: Move hardware header operations out of netdevice.Stephen Hemminger1-2/+4

2007-10-10[NET]: Wrap netdevice hardware header creation.Stephen Hemminger1-2/+1
Add inline for common usage of hardware header creation, and fix bug in IPV6 mcast where the assumption about negative return is an errno. Negative return from hard_header means not enough space was available,(ie -N bytes). Signed-off-by: Stephen Hemminger <shemminger@linux-foundation.org> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2007-10-10[NET]: Make the device list and device lookups per namespace.Eric W. Biederman1-2/+2
This patch makes most of the generic device layer network namespace safe. This patch makes dev_base_head a network namespace variable, and then it picks up a few associated variables. The functions: dev_getbyhwaddr dev_getfirsthwbytype dev_get_by_flags dev_get_by_name __dev_get_by_name dev_get_by_index __dev_get_by_index dev_ioctl dev_ethtool dev_load wireless_process_ioctl were modified to take a network namespace argument, and deal with it. vlan_ioctl_set and brioctl_set were modified so their hooks will receive a network namespace argument. So basically anthing in the core of the network stack that was affected to by the change of dev_base was modified to handle multiple network namespaces. The rest of the network stack was simply modified to explicitly use &init_net the initial network namespace. This can be fixed when those components of the network stack are modified to handle multiple network namespaces. For now the ifindex generator is left global. Fundametally ifindex numbers are per namespace, or else we will have corner case problems with migration when we get that far. At the same time there are assumptions in the network stack that the ifindex of a network device won't change. Making the ifindex number global seems a good compromise until the network stack can cope with ifindex changes when you change namespaces, and the like. Signed-off-by: Eric W. Biederman <ebiederm@xmission.com> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2007-10-10[NET]: Make device event notification network namespace safeEric W. Biederman1-0/+3
Every user of the network device notifiers is either a protocol stack or a pseudo device. If a protocol stack that does not have support for multiple network namespaces receives an event for a device that is not in the initial network namespace it quite possibly can get confused and do the wrong thing. To avoid problems until all of the protocol stacks are converted this patch modifies all netdev event handlers to ignore events on devices that are not in the initial network namespace. As the rest of the code is made network namespace aware these checks can be removed. Signed-off-by: Eric W. Biederman <ebiederm@xmission.com> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2007-10-10[NET]: Make packet reception network namespace safeEric W. Biederman1-0/+3
This patch modifies every packet receive function registered with dev_add_pack() to drop packets if they are not from the initial network namespace. This should ensure that the various network stacks do not receive packets in a anything but the initial network namespace until the code has been converted and is ready for them. 2007-10-10[NET]: Make /proc/net per network namespaceEric W. Biederman1-1/+2
This patch makes /proc/net per network namespace. It modifies the global variables proc_net and proc_net_stat to be per network namespace. The proc_net file helpers are modified to take a network namespace argument, and all of their callers are fixed to pass &init_net for that argument. This ensures that all of the /proc/net files are only visible and usable in the initial network namespace until the code behind them has been updated to be handle multiple network namespaces. Making /proc/net per namespace is necessary as at least some files in /proc/net depend upon the set of network devices which is per network namespace, and even more files in /proc/net have contents that are relevant to a single network namespace. 2007-02-14[PATCH] remove many unneeded #includes of sched.hTim Schmielau1-1/+0
After Al Viro (finally) succeeded in removing the sched.h #include in module.h recently, it makes sense again to remove other superfluous sched.h includes. There are quite a lot of files which include it but don't actually need anything defined in there. Presumably these includes were once needed for macros that used to live in sched.h, but moved to other header files in the course of cleaning it up. To ease the pain, this time I did not fiddle with any header files and only removed #includes from .c-files, which tend to cause less trouble. Compile tested against 2.6.20-rc2 and 2.6.20-rc2-mm2 (with offsets) on alpha, arm, i386, ia64, mips, powerpc, and x86_64 with allnoconfig, defconfig, allmodconfig, and allyesconfig as well as a few randconfigs on x86_64 and all configs in arch/arm/configs on arm. I also checked that no new warnings were introduced by the patch (actually, some warnings are removed that were emitted by unnecessarily included header files).
