2008-03-27[LLC]: Restrict LLC sockets to rootPatrick McHardy1-0/+3
LLC currently allows users to inject raw frames, including IP packets encapsulated in SNAP. While Linux doesn't handle IP over SNAP, other systems do. 2007-10-19Use helpers to obtain task pid in printksPavel Emelyanov1-1/+1
The task_struct->pid member is going to be deprecated, so start using the helpers (task_pid_nr/task_pid_vnr/task_pid_nr_ns) in the kernel. The first thing to start with is the pid, printed to dmesg - in this case we may safely use task_pid_nr(). Besides, printks produce more (much more) than a half of all the explicit pid usage. 2007-10-10[NET]: Make the device list and device lookups per namespace.Eric W. Biederman1-2/+2
This patch makes most of the generic device layer network namespace safe. This patch makes dev_base_head a network namespace variable, and then it picks up a few associated variables. The functions: dev_getbyhwaddr dev_getfirsthwbytype dev_get_by_flags dev_get_by_name __dev_get_by_name dev_get_by_index __dev_get_by_index dev_ioctl dev_ethtool dev_load wireless_process_ioctl were modified to take a network namespace argument, and deal with it. vlan_ioctl_set and brioctl_set were modified so their hooks will receive a network namespace argument. So basically anthing in the core of the network stack that was affected to by the change of dev_base was modified to handle multiple network namespaces. The rest of the network stack was simply modified to explicitly use &init_net the initial network namespace. This can be fixed when those components of the network stack are modified to handle multiple network namespaces. For now the ifindex generator is left global. Fundametally ifindex numbers are per namespace, or else we will have corner case problems with migration when we get that far. At the same time there are assumptions in the network stack that the ifindex of a network device won't change. Making the ifindex number global seems a good compromise until the network stack can cope with ifindex changes when you change namespaces, and the like. Signed-off-by: Eric W. 2007-10-10[NET]: Make socket creation namespace safe.Eric W. Biederman1-2/+5
This patch passes in the namespace a new socket should be created in and has the socket code do the appropriate reference counting. By virtue of this all socket create methods are touched. In addition the socket create methods are modified so that they will fail if you attempt to create a socket in a non-default network namespace. Failing if we attempt to create a socket outside of the default network namespace ensures that as we incrementally make the network stack network namespace aware we will not export functionality that someone has not audited and made certain is network namespace safe. Allowing us to partially enable network namespaces before all of the exotic protocols are supported. Any protocol layers I have missed will fail to compile because I now pass an extra parameter into the socket creation code. 2006-08-04[LLX]: SOCK_DGRAM interface fixesStephen Hemminger1-12/+8
The datagram interface of LLC is broken in a couple of ways. These were discovered when trying to use it to build an out-of-kernel version of STP. First it didn't pass the source address of the received packet in recvfrom(). It needs to copy the source address of received LLC packets into the socket control block. At the same time fix a security issue because there was uninitialized data leakage. Every recvfrom call was just copying out old data. Second, LLC should not merge multiple packets in one receive call on datagram sockets. LLC should preserve packet boundaries on SOCK_DGRAM. This fix goes against the old historical comments about UNIX98 semantics but without this fix SOCK_DGRAM is broken and useless. So either ANK's interpretation was incorect or UNIX98 standard was wrong. 2006-06-17[LLC]: allow datagram recvmsgStephen Hemminger1-2/+2

2006-01-03[NET]: Add a dev_ioctl() fallback to sock_ioctl()Christoph Hellwig1-1/+1
Currently all network protocols need to call dev_ioctl as the default fallback in their ioctl implementations. This patch adds a fallback to dev_ioctl to sock_ioctl if the protocol returned -ENOIOCTLCMD. This way all the procotol ioctl handlers can be simplified and we don't need to export dev_ioctl. 2006-01-03[NET]: move struct proto_ops to constEric Dumazet1-2/+2
I noticed that some of 'struct proto_ops' used in the kernel may share a cache line used by locks or other heavily modified data. (default linker alignement is 32 bytes, and L1_CACHE_LINE is 64 or 128 at least) This patch makes sure a 'struct proto_ops' can be declared as const, so that all cpus can share all parts of it without false sharing. This is not mandatory : a driver can still use a read/write structure if it needs to (and eventually a __read_mostly) I made a global stubstitute to change all existing occurences to make them const. This should reduce the possibility of false sharing on SMP, and speedup some socket system calls. Signed-off-by: Eric Dumazet <dada1@cosmosbay.com> Signed-off-by: David S. 2006-01-03[NET]: Avoid atomic xchg() for non-error caseBenjamin LaHaise1-3/+2
It also looks like there were 2 places where the test on sk_err was missing from the event wait logic (in sk_stream_wait_connect and sk_stream_wait_memory), while the rest of the sock_error() users look to be doing the right thing. 2005-08-29[TCP]: Move the tcp sock states to net/tcp_states.hArnaldo Carvalho de Melo1-1/+1

2005-08-29[NET]: Kill skb->listDavid S. Miller1-1/+1
Remove the "list" member of struct sk_buff, as it is entirely redundant. All SKB list removal callers know which list the SKB is on, so storing this in sk_buff does nothing other than taking up some space. Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!
