2011-12-19ALSA: module_param: make bool parameters really boolRusty Russell4-5/+5
module_param(bool) used to counter-intuitively take an int. In fddd5201 (mid-2009) we allowed bool or int/unsigned int using a messy trick. It's time to remove the int/unsigned int option. For this version it'll simply give a warning, but it'll break next kernel version. Signed-off-by: Rusty Russell <rusty@rustcorp.com.au> Signed-off-by: Takashi Iwai <tiwai@suse.de>
2011-10-31sound: Add export.h for THIS_MODULE/EXPORT_SYMBOL where neededPaul Gortmaker1-0/+1
These aren't modules, but they do make use of these macros, so they will need export.h to get that definition. Previously, they got it via the implicit module.h inclusion. Signed-off-by: Paul Gortmaker <paul.gortmaker@windriver.com>
2011-10-31sound: Add module.h to the previously silent sound usersPaul Gortmaker1-0/+1
Lots of sound drivers were getting module.h via the implicit presence of it in <linux/device.h> but we are going to clean that up. So fix up those users now. Signed-off-by: Paul Gortmaker <paul.gortmaker@windriver.com>
2011-10-31sound: fix drivers needing module.h not moduleparam.hPaul Gortmaker4-4/+4
The implicit presence of module.h lured several users into incorrectly thinking that they only needed/used modparam.h but once we clean up the module.h presence, these will show up as build failures, so fix 'em now. Signed-off-by: Paul Gortmaker <paul.gortmaker@windriver.com>
2011-09-22sound: irq: Remove IRQF_DISABLEDYong Zhang3-3/+3
Since commit [e58aa3d2: genirq: Run irq handlers with interrupts disabled], We run all interrupt handlers with interrupts disabled and we even check and yell when an interrupt handler returns with interrupts enabled (see commit [b738a50a: genirq: Warn when handler enables interrupts]). So now this flag is a NOOP and can be removed. 2011-09-14ALSA: mpu401: clean up interrupt specificationClemens Ladisch1-2/+1
The semantics of snd_mpu401_uart_new()'s interrupt parameters are somewhat counterintuitive: To prevent the function from allocating its own interrupt, either the irq number must be invalid, or the irq_flags parameter must be zero. At the same time, the irq parameter being invalid specifies that the mpu401 code has to work without an interrupt allocated by the caller. This implies that, if there is an interrupt and it is allocated by the caller, the irq parameter must be set to a valid-looking number which then isn't actually used. With the removal of IRQF_DISABLED, zero becomes a valid irq_flags value, which forces us to handle the parameters differently. This patch introduces a new flag MPU401_INFO_IRQ_HOOK for when the device interrupt is handled by the caller, and makes the allocation of the interrupt to depend only on the irq parameter. As suggested by Takashi, the irq_flags parameter was dropped because, when used, it had the constant value IRQF_DISABLED. 2010-04-13ALSA: info - Implement common llseek for binary modeTakashi Iwai1-26/+0
The llseek implementation is identical for existing driver implementations, so let's merge to the common layer. The same code for the text proc file can be used even for the binary proc file. The driver can provide its own llseek method if needed. Then the common code will be skipped. Signed-off-by: Takashi Iwai <tiwai@suse.de>

2010-03-30include cleanup: Update gfp.h and slab.h includes to prepare for breaking ↵Tejun Heo1-1/+0
implicit slab.h inclusion from percpu.h percpu.h is included by sched.h and module.h and thus ends up being included when building most .c files. percpu.h includes slab.h which in turn includes gfp.h making everything defined by the two files universally available and complicating inclusion dependencies. percpu.h -> slab.h dependency is about to be removed. Prepare for this change by updating users of gfp and slab facilities include those headers directly instead of assuming availability. As this conversion needs to touch large number of source files, the following script is used as the basis of conversion. http://userweb.kernel.org/~tj/misc/slabh-sweep.py The script does the followings. * Scan files for gfp and slab usages and update includes such that only the necessary includes are there. ie. if only gfp is used, gfp.h, if slab is used, slab.h. * When the script inserts a new include, it looks at the include blocks and try to put the new include such that its order conforms to its surrounding. It's put in the include block which contains core kernel includes, in the same order that the rest are ordered - alphabetical, Christmas tree, rev-Xmas-tree or at the end if there doesn't seem to be any matching order. * If the script can't find a place to put a new include (mostly because the file doesn't have fitting include block), it prints out an error message indicating which .h file needs to be added to the file. The conversion was done in the following steps. 1. The initial automatic conversion of all .c files updated slightly over 4000 files, deleting around 700 includes and adding ~480 gfp.h and ~3000 slab.h inclusions. The script emitted errors for ~400 files. 2. Each error was manually checked. Some didn't need the inclusion, some needed manual addition while adding it to implementation .h or embedding .c file was more appropriate for others. This step added inclusions to around 150 files. 3. The script was run again and the output was compared to the edits from #2 to make sure no file was left behind. 4. Several build tests were done and a couple of problems were fixed. e.g. lib/decompress_*.c used malloc/free() wrappers around slab APIs requiring slab.h to be added manually. 5. The script was run on all .h files but without automatically editing them as sprinkling gfp.h and slab.h inclusions around .h files could easily lead to inclusion dependency hell. Most gfp.h inclusion directives were ignored as stuff from gfp.h was usually wildly available and often used in preprocessor macros. Each slab.h inclusion directive was examined and added manually as necessary. 6. percpu.h was updated not to include slab.h. 7. Build test were done on the following configurations and failures were fixed. CONFIG_GCOV_KERNEL was turned off for all tests (as my distributed build env didn't work with gcov compiles) and a few more options had to be turned off depending on archs to make things build (like ipr on powerpc/64 which failed due to missing writeq). * x86 and x86_64 UP and SMP allmodconfig and a custom test config. * powerpc and powerpc64 SMP allmodconfig * sparc and sparc64 SMP allmodconfig * ia64 SMP allmodconfig * s390 SMP allmodconfig * alpha SMP allmodconfig * um on x86_64 SMP allmodconfig 8. percpu.h modifications were reverted so that it could be applied as a separate patch and serve as bisection point. Given the fact that I had only a couple of failures from tests on step 6, I'm fairly confident about the coverage of this conversion patch. If there is a breakage, it's likely to be something in one of the arch headers which should be easily discoverable easily on most builds of the specific arch. 2009-12-14ALSA: sound/isa/gus: Correct code taking the size of a pointerJulia Lawall1-1/+2
sizeof(share_id) is just the size of the pointer. On the other hand, block->share_id is an array, so its size seems more appropriate. A simplified version of the semantic patch that finds this problem is as follows: (http://coccinelle.lip6.fr/) // <smpl> @@ expression *x; expression f; type T; @@ *f(...,(T)x,...) // </smpl> Signed-off-by: Julia Lawall <julia@diku.dk> Signed-off-by: Takashi Iwai <tiwai@suse.de>
2009-07-19ALSA: sound/isa: convert nested spin_lock_irqsave to spin_lockJulia Lawall1-2/+2
If spin_lock_irqsave is called twice in a row with the same second argument, the interrupt state at the point of the second call overwrites the value saved by the first call. Indeed, the second call does not need to save the interrupt state, so it is changed to a simple spin_lock. The semantic match that finds this problem is as follows: (http://www.emn.fr/x-info/coccinelle/) // <smpl> @@ expression lock1,lock2; expression flags; @@ *spin_lock_irqsave(lock1,flags) ... when != flags *spin_lock_irqsave(lock2,flags) // </smpl> Signed-off-by: Julia Lawall <julia@diku.dk> Signed-off-by: Takashi Iwai <tiwai@suse.de>

2008-01-31[ALSA] Remove sound/driver.hTakashi Iwai18-18/+0
This header file exists only for some hacks to adapt alsa-driver tree. It's useless for building in the kernel. Let's move a few lines in it to sound/core.h and remove it. With this patch, sound/driver.h isn't removed but has just a single compile warning to include it. This should be really killed in future. 2008-01-31[ALSA] sound/isa: kill pnp_resource_changeRene Herman1-34/+5
This removes the pnp_resource_change use from the ALSA ISAPnP drivers. In 2.4 these were useful in providing an easy path to setting the resources, but in 2.6 they retain function as a layering violation only. This makes for a nice cleanup (-550 lines) of ALSA but moreover, ALSA is the only remaining user of pnp_init_resource_table(), pnp_resource_change() and pnp_manual_config_dev() (and, in fact, of 'struct pnp_resource_table') in the tree outide of drivers/pnp itself meaning it makes for more cleanup potential inside the PnP layer. Thomas Renninger acked their removal from that side, you did from the ALSA side (CC list just copied from that thread). Against current alsa-kernel HG. Many more potential cleanups in there, but this _only_ removes the pnp_resource_change code. Compile tested against current alsa-kernel HG and compile- and use-tested against 2.6.23.x (few offsets). 2006-10-06Various drivers' irq handlers: kill dead code, needless castsJeff Garzik2-2/+2
- Eliminate casts to/from void* - Eliminate checks for conditions that never occur. These typically fall into two classes: 1) Checking for 'dev_id == NULL', then it is never called with NULL as an argument. 2) Checking for invalid irq number, when the only caller (the system) guarantees the irq handler is called with the proper 'irq' number argument. 2006-10-05IRQ: Maintain regs pointer globally rather than passing to IRQ handlersDavid Howells3-7/+7
Maintain a per-CPU global "struct pt_regs *" variable which can be used instead of passing regs around manually through all ~1800 interrupt handlers in the Linux kernel. The regs pointer is used in few places, but it potentially costs both stack space and code to pass it around. On the FRV arch, removing the regs parameter from all the genirq function results in a 20% speed up of the IRQ exit path (ie: from leaving timer_interrupt() to leaving do_IRQ()). Where appropriate, an arch may override the generic storage facility and do something different with the variable. On FRV, for instance, the address is maintained in GR28 at all times inside the kernel as part of general exception handling. Having looked over the code, it appears that the parameter may be handed down through up to twenty or so layers of functions. Consider a USB character device attached to a USB hub, attached to a USB controller that posts its interrupts through a cascaded auxiliary interrupt controller. A character device driver may want to pass regs to the sysrq handler through the input layer which adds another few layers of parameter passing. I've build this code with allyesconfig for x86_64 and i386. I've runtested the main part of the code on FRV and i386, though I can't test most of the drivers. I've also done partial conversion for powerpc and MIPS - these at least compile with minimal configurations. This will affect all archs. Mostly the changes should be relatively easy. Take do_IRQ(), store the regs pointer at the beginning, saving the old one: struct pt_regs *old_regs = set_irq_regs(regs); And put the old one back at the end: set_irq_regs(old_regs); Don't pass regs through to generic_handle_irq() or __do_IRQ(). In timer_interrupt(), this sort of change will be necessary: - update_process_times(user_mode(regs)); - profile_tick(CPU_PROFILING, regs); + update_process_times(user_mode(get_irq_regs())); + profile_tick(CPU_PROFILING); I'd like to move update_process_times()'s use of get_irq_regs() into itself, except that i386, alone of the archs, uses something other than user_mode(). Some notes on the interrupt handling in the drivers: (*) input_dev() is now gone entirely. The regs pointer is no longer stored in the input_dev struct. (*) finish_unlinks() in drivers/usb/host/ohci-q.c needs checking. It does something different depending on whether it's been supplied with a regs pointer or not. (*) Various IRQ handler function pointers have been moved to type irq_handler_t.
