2014-11-18upstream: [media] v4l: add RF tuner gain controlsAntti Palosaari1-0/+11
Modern silicon RF tuners used nowadays has many controllable gain stages on signal path. Usually, but not always, there is at least 3 gain stages. Also on some cases there could be multiple gain stages within the ones specified here. However, I think that having these three controllable gain stages offers enough fine-tuning for real use cases. 1) LNA gain. That is first gain just after antenna input. 2) Mixer gain. It is located quite middle of the signal path, where RF signal is down-converted to IF/BB. 3) IF gain. That is last gain in order to adjust output signal level to optimal level for receiving party (usually demodulator ADC). Each gain stage could be set rather often both manual or automatic (AGC) mode. 2014-11-18upstream: [media] vb2: retry start_streaming in case of insufficient buffersHans Verkuil1-4/+11
If start_streaming returns -ENOBUFS, then it will be retried the next time a buffer is queued. This means applications no longer need to know how many buffers need to be queued before STREAMON can be called. This is particularly useful for output stream I/O. If a DMA engine needs at least X buffers before it can start streaming, then for applications to get a buffer out as soon as possible they need to know the minimum number of buffers to queue before STREAMON can be called. You can't just try STREAMON after every buffer since on failure STREAMON will dequeue all your buffers. (Is that a bug or a feature? Frankly, I'm not sure). This patch simplifies applications substantially: they can just call STREAMON at the beginning and then start queuing buffers and the DMA engine will kick in automagically once enough buffers are available. This also fixes using write() to stream video: the fileio implementation calls streamon without having any queued buffers, which will fail today for any driver that requires a minimum number of buffers. Rather than taking the mmap semaphore at a relatively high-level function, push it down to the place where it is really needed. It was placed in vb2_queue_or_prepare_buf() to prevent racing with other vb2 calls. The only way I can see that a race can happen is when two threads queue the same buffer. The solution for that it to introduce a PREPARING state. Moving it down offers opportunities to simplify the code. 2014-11-18upstream: [media] v4l: ti-vpe: Add VPE mem to mem driverArchit Taneja1-0/+4
VPE is a block which consists of a single memory to memory path which can perform chrominance up/down sampling, de-interlacing, scaling, and color space conversion of raster or tiled YUV420 coplanar, YUV422 coplanar or YUV422 interleaved video formats. We create a mem2mem driver based primarily on the mem2mem-testdev example. The de-interlacer, scaler and color space converter are all bypassed for now to keep the driver simple. Chroma up/down sampler blocks are implemented, so conversion beteen different YUV formats is possible. Each mem2mem context allocates a buffer for VPE MMR values which it will use when it gets access to the VPE HW via the mem2mem queue, it also allocates a VPDMA descriptor list to which configuration and data descriptors are added. Based on the information received via v4l2 ioctls for the source and destination queues, the driver configures the values for the MMRs, and stores them in the buffer. There are also some VPDMA parameters like frame start and line mode which needs to be configured, these are configured by direct register writes via the VPDMA helper functions. The driver's device_run() mem2mem op will add each descriptor based on how the source and destination queues are set up for the given ctx, once the list is prepared, it's submitted to VPDMA, these descriptors when parsed by VPDMA will upload MMR registers, start DMA of video buffers on the various input and output clients/ports. When the list is parsed completely(and the DMAs on all the output ports done), an interrupt is generated which we use to notify that the source and destination buffers are done. The rest of the driver is quite similar to other mem2mem drivers, we use the multiplane v4l2 ioctls as the HW support coplanar formats. The VSP1 is a video processing engine that includes a blender, scalers, filters and statistics computation. Configurable data path routing logic allows ordering the internal blocks in a flexible way. Due to the configurable nature of the pipeline the driver implements the media controller API and doesn't use the V4L2 mem-to-mem framework, even though the device usually operates in memory to memory mode. Only the read pixel formatters, up/down scalers, write pixel formatters and LCDC interface are supported at this stage. 2014-11-18upstream: [media] media: lirc: Allow lirc dev to talk to rc deviceSrinivas Kandagatla1-0/+1
The use case is simple, if any rc device has allowed protocols = RC_TYPE_LIRC and map_name = RC_MAP_LIRC set, the driver open will be never called. The reason for this is, all of the key maps except lirc have some KEYS in there map, so during rc_register_device process these keys are matched against the input drivers and open is performed, so for the case of RC_MAP_EMPTY, a vt/keyboard is matched and the driver open is performed. In case of lirc, there is no match and result is that there is no open performed, however the lirc-dev will go ahead and create a /dev/lirc0 node. Now when lircd/mode2 opens this device, no data is available because the driver was never opened. Other case pointed by Sean Young, As rc device gets opened via the input interface. If the input device is never opened (e.g. embedded with no console) then the rc open is never called and lirc will not work either. So that's another case. lirc_dev seems to have no link with actual rc device w.r.t open/close. This patch adds rc_dev pointer to lirc_driver structure for cases like this, so that it can do the open/close of the real driver in accordance to lircd/mode2 open/close. Without this patch its impossible to open a rc device which has RC_TYPE_LIRC ad RC_MAP_LIRC set. This patch adds user count to rc_dev structure, the reason to add this new member is to allow other code like lirc to open rc device directly. In the existing code, rc device is only opened by input subsystem which works ok if we have any input drivers to match. But in case like lirc where there will be no input driver, rc device will be never opened. Having this user count variable will be usefull to allow rc device to be opened from code other than rc-main. This patch also adds rc_open and rc_close functions for other drivers like lirc to open and close rc devices. This functions safely increment and decrement the user count. Other driver wanting to open rc device should call rc_open and rc_close, rather than directly modifying the rc_dev structure.
