2013-03-15Drivers: hv: Add a new driver to support host initiated backupK. Y. Srinivasan1-1/+1
This driver supports host initiated backup of the guest. On Windows guests, the host can generate application consistent backups using the Windows VSS framework. On Linux, we ensure that the backup will be file system consistent. This driver allows the host to initiate a "Freeze" operation on all the mounted file systems in the guest. Once the mounted file systems in the guest are frozen, the host snapshots the guest's file systems. Once this is done, the guest's file systems are "thawed". This driver has a user-level component (daemon) that invokes the appropriate operation on all the mounted file systems in response to the requests from the host. The duration for which the guest is frozen is very short - a few seconds. During this interval, the diff disk is comitted. In this version of the patch I have addressed the feedback from Olaf Herring. Also, some of the connector related issues have been fixed. Signed-off-by: K. Y. 2012-11-15Drivers: hv: Add Hyper-V balloon driverK. Y. Srinivasan1-0/+1
Add the basic balloon driver. Windows hosts dynamically manage the guest memory allocation via a combination memory hot add and ballooning. Memory hot add is used to grow the guest memory upto the maximum memory that can be allocatted to the guest. Ballooning is used to both shrink as well as expand up to the max memory. Supporting hot add needs additional support from the host. We will support hot add when this support is available. For now, by setting the VM startup memory to the VM max memory, we can use ballooning alone to dynamically manage memory allocation amongst competing guests on a given host. Signed-off-by: K. Y. 2011-10-10Staging: hv: move hyperv code out of staging directoryGreg Kroah-Hartman1-0/+7
After many years wandering the desert, it is finally time for the Microsoft HyperV code to move out of the staging directory. Or at least the core hyperv bus code, and the utility driver, the rest still have some review to get through by the various subsystem maintainers.
