2012-10-02Redefine ATOMIC_INIT and ATOMIC64_INIT to drop the castsMel Gorman1-2/+2
commit 67a806d9499353fabd5b5ff07337f3aa88a1c3ba upstream. The following build error occurred during an alpha build: net/core/sock.c:274:36: error: initializer element is not constant Dave Anglin says: > Here is the line in sock.i: > > struct static_key memalloc_socks = ((struct static_key) { .enabled = > ((atomic_t) { (0) }) }); The above line contains two compound literals. It also uses a designated initializer to initialize the field enabled. A compound literal is not a constant expression. The location of the above statement isn't fully clear, but if a compound literal occurs outside the body of a function, the initializer list must consist of constant expressions. 2012-09-14alpha: Don't export SOCK_NONBLOCK to user space.Michael Cree1-0/+2
commit a2fa3ccd7b43665fe14cb562761a6c3d26a1d13f upstream. Currently we export SOCK_NONBLOCK to user space but that conflicts with the definition from glibc leading to compilation errors in user programs (e.g. see Debian bug #658460). The generic socket.h restricts the definition of SOCK_NONBLOCK to the kernel, as does the MIPS specific socket.h, so let's do the same on Alpha. 2012-09-14alpha: fix fpu.h usage in userspaceMike Frysinger1-0/+2
commit 0be421862b857e61964435ffcaa7499cf77a5e5a upstream. After commit ec2212088c42 ("Disintegrate asm/system.h for Alpha"), the fpu.h header which we install for userland started depending on special_insns.h which is not installed. However, fpu.h only uses that for __KERNEL__ code, so protect the inclusion the same way to avoid build breakage in glibc: /usr/include/asm/fpu.h:4:31: fatal error: asm/special_insns.h: No such file or directory Reported-by: Matt Turner <mattst88@gentoo.org> Signed-off-by: Mike Frysinger <vapier@gentoo.org> Signed-off-by: Michael Cree <mcree@orcon.net.nz> Acked-by: Matt Turner <mattst88@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org> Signed-off-by: Greg Kroah-Hartman <gregkh@linuxfoundation.org>

commit ec2212088c42ff7d1362629ec26dda4f3e8bdad3 "Disintegrate asm/system.h for Alpha" combined with commit b4816afa3986704d1404fc48e931da5135820472 "Move the asm-generic/system.h xchg() implementation to asm-generic/cmpxchg.h" introduced the concept of asm/cmpxchg.h but the alpha arch never got one. Fork the cmpxchg content out of the asm/atomic.h file to create one. Some minor whitespace fixups were done on the block of code that created the new file. Merge batch of fixes from Andrew Morton: "The simple_open() cleanup was held back while I wanted for laggards to merge things. I still need to send a few checkpoint/restore patches. I've been wobbly about merging them because I'm wobbly about the overall prospects for success of the project. But after speaking with Pavel at the LSF conference, it sounds like they're further toward completion than I feared - apparently davem is at the "has stopped complaining" stage regarding the net changes. 2012-04-05alpha: use set_current_blocked() and block_sigmask()Matt Fleming1-21/+10
As described in e6fa16ab9c1e ("signal: sigprocmask() should do retarget_shared_pending()") the modification of current->blocked is incorrect as we need to check for shared signals we're about to block. Also, use the new helper function introduced in commit 5e6292c0f28f ("signal: add block_sigmask() for adding sigmask to current->blocked") which centralises the code for updating current->blocked after successfully delivering a signal and reduces the amount of duplicate code across architectures. In the past some architectures got this code wrong, so using this helper function should stop that from happening again. 2012-04-04Merge branch 'for-linus' of ↵Linus Torvalds3-14/+24
git://git.linaro.org/people/mszyprowski/linux-dma-mapping Pull DMA mapping branch from Marek Szyprowski: "Short summary for the whole series: A few limitations have been identified in the current dma-mapping design and its implementations for various architectures. There exist more than one function for allocating and freeing the buffers: currently these 3 are used dma_{alloc, free}_coherent, dma_{alloc,free}_writecombine, dma_{alloc,free}_noncoherent. For most of the systems these calls are almost equivalent and can be interchanged. For others, especially the truly non-coherent ones (like ARM), the difference can be easily noticed in overall driver performance. Sadly not all architectures provide implementations for all of them, so the drivers might need to be adapted and cannot be easily shared between different architectures. The provided patches unify all these functions and hide the differences under the already existing dma attributes concept. The thread with more references is available here: http://www.spinics.net/lists/linux-sh/msg09777.html These patches are also a prerequisite for unifying DMA-mapping implementation on ARM architecture with the common one provided by dma_map_ops structure and extending it with IOMMU support. More information is available in the following thread: http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.linux.kernel.cross-arch/12819 More works on dma-mapping framework are planned, especially in the area of buffer sharing and managing the shared mappings (together with the recently introduced dma_buf interface: commit d15bd7ee445d "dma-buf: Introduce dma buffer sharing mechanism"). The patches in the current set introduce a new alloc/free methods (with support for memory attributes) in dma_map_ops structure, which will later replace dma_alloc_coherent and dma_alloc_writecombine functions." People finally started piping up with support for merging this, so I'm merging it as the last of the pending stuff from the merge window. Looks like pohmelfs is going to wait for 3.5 and more external support for merging. * 'for-linus' of git://git.linaro.org/people/mszyprowski/linux-dma-mapping: common: DMA-mapping: add NON-CONSISTENT attribute common: DMA-mapping: add WRITE_COMBINE attribute common: dma-mapping: introduce mmap method common: dma-mapping: remove old alloc_coherent and free_coherent methods Hexagon: adapt for dma_map_ops changes Unicore32: adapt for dma_map_ops changes Microblaze: adapt for dma_map_ops changes SH: adapt for dma_map_ops changes Alpha: adapt for dma_map_ops changes SPARC: adapt for dma_map_ops changes PowerPC: adapt for dma_map_ops changes MIPS: adapt for dma_map_ops changes X86 & IA64: adapt for dma_map_ops changes common: dma-mapping: introduce generic alloc() and free() methods

git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/dhowells/linux-asm_system Pull "Disintegrate and delete asm/system.h" from David Howells: "Here are a bunch of patches to disintegrate asm/system.h into a set of separate bits to relieve the problem of circular inclusion dependencies. I've built all the working defconfigs from all the arches that I can and made sure that they don't break. The reason for these patches is that I recently encountered a circular dependency problem that came about when I produced some patches to optimise get_order() by rewriting it to use ilog2(). This uses bitops - and on the SH arch asm/bitops.h drags in asm-generic/get_order.h by a circuituous route involving asm/system.h. The main difficulty seems to be asm/system.h. It holds a number of low level bits with no/few dependencies that are commonly used (eg. memory barriers) and a number of bits with more dependencies that aren't used in many places (eg. switch_to()). These patches break asm/system.h up into the following core pieces: (1) asm/barrier.h Move memory barriers here. This already done for MIPS and Alpha. (2) asm/switch_to.h Move switch_to() and related stuff here. (3) asm/exec.h Move arch_align_stack() here. Other process execution related bits could perhaps go here from asm/processor.h. (4) asm/cmpxchg.h Move xchg() and cmpxchg() here as they're full word atomic ops and frequently used by atomic_xchg() and atomic_cmpxchg(). (5) asm/bug.h Move die() and related bits. (6) asm/auxvec.h Move AT_VECTOR_SIZE_ARCH here. Other arch headers are created as needed on a per-arch basis." 2012-03-23coredump: add VM_NODUMP, MADV_NODUMP, MADV_CLEAR_NODUMPJason Baron1-0/+4
Since we no longer need the VM_ALWAYSDUMP flag, let's use the freed bit for 'VM_NODUMP' flag. The idea is is to add a new madvise() flag: MADV_DONTDUMP, which can be set by applications to specifically request memory regions which should not dump core. The specific application I have in mind is qemu: we can add a flag there that wouldn't dump all of guest memory when qemu dumps core. This flag might also be useful for security sensitive apps that want to absolutely make sure that parts of memory are not dumped. To clear the flag use: MADV_DODUMP. 2012-02-21sock: Introduce the SO_PEEK_OFF sock optionPavel Emelyanov1-0/+1
This one specifies where to start MSG_PEEK-ing queue data from. When set to negative value means that MSG_PEEK works as ususally -- peeks from the head of the queue always. When some bytes are peeked from queue and the peeking offset is non negative it is moved forward so that the next peek will return next portion of data. When non-peeking recvmsg occurs and the peeking offset is non negative is is moved backward so that the next peek will still peek the proper data (i.e. the one that would have been picked if there were no non peeking recv in between). The offset is set using per-proto opteration to let the protocol handle the locking issues and to check whether the peeking offset feature is supported by the protocol the socket belongs to.
